Yes, I’m a girl. I am, however, by no stretch of the imagination a girly girl. Case in point? HZ was hoping for cute pink running shoes. I was so determined to buy blue I ended up in the guy’s section (That and I have boat feet). Did I ever wish I was a Disney princess? No. Did I ever play with Barbies as a kid? No. Do I leave the house without makeup on? All the time. My standard outfit is jeans, a tshirt and flipflops. The great irony there is I suspect even when I finally shed the weight I’m still going to live in jeans, a tshirt and flipflops, just in smaller sizes.

So someone tell me why THIS seems so intriguing. I think it’s the sparkly tiaras.

Oh and the other irony? It’s first week of March so it would be the perfect half marathon for me, too bad it’s in Florida.

In other news, I still don’t have a marathon chosen. It turns out if I run the Huntington Beach (Surf City) half marathon in February I can help THIS cause. Why am I so desperate to run for a cause, you ask? Well because I like helping people. I’m also a whiner and when it comes to working out I have a history of being something of a quitter. I figure I’d feel like such a jerk taking money away from dogs or the needy I’d tough it out.

I’ll admit I thought Connie was insane when she suggested I do both the half marathon on Feb 1st and the 5k on the 16th. Now I’m seriously considering it, but perhaps I should make it through my first week of couch to 5k before I commit to that kind of insanity.

  1. Connie thought (and she’s speaking of herself in the 3rd person, which is rarely a good sign) that they were both 5K runs; I did not realize that one was a half-marathon. She takes back her suggestion, unless you really want to do it, in which case I’ll be cheering you on in spirit.

LOL. Well Connie, it looks like I out-crazy your crazy. I was referring to both the half marathon and the 5k.

There are several options, as you’ve seen. The question remains so I’m going to shelve it for two weeks. We shall see.

I think we should revisit this post in say, a month. Because, for instance, I was a distance/cross country kind of runner for about twenty years. I quit three years ago for the health issues that we won’t revisit lol. 😛 Anyway, I was what most ppl would consider a serious runner–40+ miles a week. Actually, I should write y’all a post for this. Basically it comes down to I’ve had every runners ailment. Runner’s knee, itb, shin splints. The absolute worst–stress fractures.

Y’all have both set yourselves an awesome goal and I am allll for that. And also glad to see you doing it in a structured way like c25k. But I want to caution you to not get ahead of yourself. Do the half in Feb. March would be better imo. But either way, don’t push yourself into another race too soon after that. You don’t have to plan for that now. The good thing about running, the spiritual thing about running (and yes it is its own kind of communion), is it’s a go with the flow kinda sport. After you do it for awhile, you really learn to love it. Then you forget limits. You forget you need to work on distance and speed incrementally. I can pinpoint every single one of my serious injuries to a point when I tried to gain too much too fast.

I don’t want to discourage. I should have been posting my own schedule probably. I’ll do that on my blog tonight. Do 5k’s. 5k’s are awesome. But do them before the half and wait to schedule a 5k after that at least several days. I’ve done some 13 milers and they are incredible. Really awesome. You’re gonna feel like you got run over by a truck the next day. You’ll still feel awesome, but it’s a very sore awesome lol. I did some 20 milers in the Army and they, well, you probably don’t want to know what they were like lol. I miss those days lol. 😀

Okay, now that I’ve written a book I think I’ll go post on my blog lol.

    Hey Carbkiller-

We can do the Disney Princess. My parents live in Orlando and we can stay with them. And to top it off…my dad has worked for The Mouse for almost 30 years. However, did you see the price…$120 for the half. Are the tiaras gold plated….is the tshirt a Vera Wang design?

As for a race in Feb or Mar…pick one. I’ll do it with you. As long as I can stay with you…don’t want to drive up from San Diego the morning of.

I still say do the 5K in February and the 1/2 marathon at the end of March Agoura Hills is right around the corner especially the way you and I drive.

Finally, bite me o’ great and mighty Disney. How dare you not do this Inaugral Princess 1/2 Marathon where Disney began. The mouse sucks! I might have actually trained for the Princess 5K but I am not wasting my travel dollars on flying to Florida to run. Uh-uh – no way.

I am thinking of declaring wr on that stupid mouse. On the other hand, I am so buying myself a tiara for Christmas. Enough of this sheyat waiting for the right moment. I have Bubba teeth (gotta find them again) and then with the tiara, I will be going shopping at a Super WalMart as soon as I can find one near by.

Hmmm, maybe we should start our own 5K?

  6. Mia says:

Okay, the mouse is in a better place now because I found this

It isn’t until next September, and it isn’t the Princess 1/2 marathon, but at least it is close to home. I might actually train for that … some time next year!

I totally wanna run with a tiara on my head! I’m in for a Disney run. Maybe we can plan it for next year and try to get as many of us as we can to meet up!
