We’ve had several emails from readers who are ready to join in and pledge to start training with us. We had a plan but then we scrapped that plan because we had more folks express their interest and it was becoming too complicated for us to manage. (We’re simple folk here.)

So here’s the new plan. We want you to join the team. You don’t have to vow to run. And you certainly don’t have to vow to do a half-marathon. (we’re the only fools allowed on this blog) All you have to do is pledge to get moving.

If you want to be on the team, all we ask you to do is comment here. Tell us who you are, what your goals are (running, walking, swimming, biking…whatever), and where you live. If you have a website/blog give us the address. We’ll add you to our TEAM page. CK and I are going to be blogging a lot (or maybe not a lot) if you want to add to the blog, shoot it to us in an email to crazy @fatchicksrunning.com (w/o the space after crazy) and we’ll post it for you with your name in the subject.

This is an exciting time for us. We might be foolish, but at least we won’t be alone.

So I just found you guys! I just started with the Couch to 5K last month. I’m about to start week 3! 🙂 I am 27 and been overweight most of my life. It’s not stopping me from running though! I’m running my 1st 5K in November for our local Turkey Trot! My Goal (as far-fetched as it is) is to run my first half-marathon before I’m 30! I live in Texas, so I have the horrible heat, humidity, and mosquitoes fighting against me! lol But I won’t be stopped! Let me know if I can join the club! 🙂

Hello! I’m new to Southern CA. I just moved from Northern CA where I had an awesome group of runners of every pace. I’ve been running 1/2’s for the past 10 years, but I still get that “YOU run?” look. But, whatever. I have medals to hang, bibs to flip through and miles of stories to keep me happy.

Hello all, I love in the Los Angeles area. I have been walking at least two half marathons a year since 2004. I have two bad feet and a bad knee. My doc assures me that if I lose some of my extra weight my feet and knee will get better, so I have decided to run. I am going to start doing intervals after the Rock n Roll Los Angeles Half marathon in October. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Kelly

OOPS! Meant to say “live” in the Los Angeles area! How Freudian of me! : )

My name is Kari and I am living in the Central Valley of California. I enjoy a good run. Well let’s be real folks I enjoy a good shuffle. (Over the weekend I ran a 5K and I had a walker tailing me the whole time!)
I turned 33 in January this year and decided I would run 1 race a month. In the end I would have 12 t-shirts to make a fantastic lap quilt (ohh and by the way I am pretty darn crafty too). As you can imagine my two hobbies are mortal enemies. They duke it out all the time! One hobby I totally sweat, get blisters and chafe and the other hobby I am sitting on my butt as it grows. I am in the process of losing weight and training for two half marathons… the San Francisco Half in July and the Disneyland Half in September. I am so excited to have found your blog!!!

I am running 26 races this year… Anything that has a “start” and a “finish” – so road races, triathlons, adventure races… whatever! I love this blog!

It all started with me enviously watching runners. At the gym, at the park, on the road all over the SF Bay Area (where I live)… for as far back as I can remember, and thinking something along the lines of “Man, I wished I looked as happy and healthy running as that chic.” And then poof, like a magic tidal wave, or at least a steady stream, new friends flowed into my life with one thing in common: independent of each other, all these women happen to be runners.

And that’s when things got crazy. With 4 months left to train I signed up for the 2011 Disney Princess Half Marathon…and failed spectacularly. Procrastination and a mild propensity for self destructive behavior will do that for you. Turns out, sheer force of will and stubbornness alone will not carry you 13.1 miles.

Since that day in February I’ve started actually training, often with a runner friend who’s graciously taken on the role of mentor. I’ve finished my first 5k and signed up for another, I’m slated for a local 10k come the end of July, and am looking forward to earning a finisher’s medal at the Disneyland Half Marathon in September. Oh yeah, remember that mild self-destructive streak I mentioned? I blame it for my entering the lottery drawing for the Nike Women’s (half)Marathon, I blame some ironic cosmic force with a dark sense of humor more twisted than my own for actually being chosen – Nike happens a mere 6 weeks after Disneyland, thats Oct. 16th for those counting along.

And that brings me to this moment. I’m pleased to make your acquaintance, I’m a fat chick, and I’ve started running.

I ran my first 1/2 marathon on 4/2/2011 and my goal was to finish. Mile 11 rolled by and I the little evil me was sitting on my shoulder laughing at me. I got little evil me to shut up until mile 12 when a guy in his 70’s passed me and gave me a fist bump and said to keep going. Really? I am only 40 so the old guy passing me was a real downer. I managed to finish in 3:38 and started to cry at mile 13 because I DID IT and knew the finish line was there.

The 1/2 in April was part of my training for the big race on 5/14/2011 5/3 Riverbank Run in Grand Rapids (25K). Well I did that one too and was so worried about the 3:30 time limit I thought I was going to go crazy with worry. I started out in the back as usual and at one point I could see the cop car bringing up the rear. OMG what have I done. By mile 3 I was passing people….sure they were old and used walkers but by God I was passing people. I never saw the cop car again. I finished 15.5 miles in 3:26. Cried like a baby crossing that finish line. I was just so excited it was still there for me to cross. I crossed it and set a goal for 2012….finish in under 3 hours.

It sure is hard to get back to running after taking a week off. I will do it and I am looking for a couple 1/2’s to do this summer….I read some of your blog and love it! Looking forward to being a part of it.

Welcome, Ann! We’ve been a little slack here at FCR lately but I’m trying hard to get back on the bandwagon and I’m hoping I can rustle up CK to rejoin me.

I nearly cried too when I crossed the finish line in March. 5 years ago I weighed 254 lbs and I never would have thought a half marathon would even be possible. You can totally do the next half under 3 hours!

TuesLay! Welcome! I’m sorry we’ve been rather lax in our fitness and blog duties as of late. I’m a fat chick, who ran…and then stopped. But I’m back again! It’s nice to meet you…how’s your progress been so far?

  11. Hogzilla says:

Rose! Welcome and congrats on such a great goal! 26 races? I’m happy to have completed 1. 🙂

  12. Hogzilla says:

Kari, I hope you’re still doing well…I’m working hard at getting back to this blog…update us on your progress!
