A couple weeks ago I attended a conference in the same hotel as the 22nd Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Conference. They had an awesome car in the hotel lobby and a took a ton of really really poor quality pictures with my camera. I finally discovered a couple images that weren’t too terrible so I’m posting them here.
Note: How does this relate to weight loss or running you ask? *shrug*
How I saw it the first time. Not what you'd expect in a hotel lobby!
The Side View!
And two adults fit comfortably in the seats.
This is the model they used. Amazing! And of course every good Hot Wheels needs a box. So this is how they drive it around!
I slacked on blogging (except at my personal blog, where I posted loads of pictures of FOOD), I slacked on exercising (except for my mouth…which got a helluva workout eating everything that didn’t run away), and I slacked on writing (except for writing down my diabetic friendly pumpkin pie recipe).
It’s official–I’m a slacker.
So today, I’m back to business. I’m writing this morning, decorating my house this afternoon, and sometime–I’m going to get back to exercising. Otherwise, the next time you see me, I’ll be sitting on my throne with Princess Leia chained to me.
Hope you guys had a great holiday. And for my friends across the pond–hope your days were filled with fast runs, and good rest.
Thanks to CK and Jodie for filling in while I slacked off.
By not having the right pair of shoes before I started running I’ve done damage to my knees and heels. On Sunday after my last run my arch hurt to walk on it and is seriously inflamed. I went and got my foot professionally fitted and spent $275 on these beauties:
What do you think?
So, already done the damage, I’ve been spending my time taking ibprofen and icing alternatively. I’m hoping to do week5 this week but will see if I can do it on the elliptical rider/exercise bike and if on Sunday it’s all healed I’ll go for a run… I don’t like my chances tho – I think next week will be my attempt at week5.
So, I CANNOT stress enough, get your foot professionally fitted. Make sure you have the right shoes for you. You might also look at strapping your foot for extra arch support. After running, use an iced water bottle and roll your feet over it for about 15minutes. This will reduce the inflammation and help the strained ligaments. Remember you only have 1 set of feet, so take care of ‘em.
Here is a youtube technique of how to strap your feet to give your arch some extra support. There are a few out there, so have a look.
Okay, am I the only one who doesn’t like turkey? I don’t see the point in wasting hours cooking something only to hope I don’t get stuck with dark meat. Some people like their turkey roasted. I like mine fresh from the deli aisle in a ziplock pack. So for turkeyday I’m going to break tradition and not have turkey.
Heck I might even talk my mom into making eggrolls.
As for the running front I’ve been walking. Yesterday I walked until it started raining (in southern california, YAY RAIN!) and then came in and did situps. 200 of them. I really really dislike situps but i figure I only need about 8,000,000 more to get to where I need to be. *sigh*
Other then that it is a dark and overcast day with clouds that look like they might open up any second now. I love that kind of weather. I always want to curl up with herbal tea or hot cocoa and read a good book.
A man feared his wife wasn’t hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem.
The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.
Here’s what you do,’ said the Doctor, ‘stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you.
If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response.’
That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the den. He says to himself, ‘I’m about 40 feet away, let’s see what happens.’ Then in a normal tone he asks, ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’
So the husband moves closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’
Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his wife and asks, ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’
Again he gets no response.
So, he walks up to the kitchen door, about 10 feet away. ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’ Again there is no response.
So he walks right up behind her. ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’
Do you ever sit there and wonder how you got so out of shape? I do even though the answer is obvious. Somewhere between quitting competitive sports in HS, and working through college and grad school my “off time” changed from working out to sitting on my butt. And my butt showed its infinite gratitude by swelling with pride. Great.
So here is what bugs me the most about this current situation: now that I’ve firmly entrenched myself in the sit down and veg out club I find I don’t really want to do anything else. The process by which I have to talk myself into getting into my car and going somewhere where it is safe to run (or to the gym) is miserable.
And it doesn’t seem to get any easier.
I live in hope that one day I will be so thrilled by my running progress I will decide to try a full marathon, or a triathlon, or the Tour de France. LOL. The reality is, though, that I have all kinds of fun trying to just breathe correctly on my runs. At this point the half-marathon still seems excruciating.
This, however, is a defining moment.
It seems my exercise plan is full of these moments where at any given moment I can sit down a quit, and face this challenge again when I’m older, or fatter because at this point that’s what I see when I gaze into a looking glass. So I’m grinding it out.
Have I been lazy? Yes. Have I bitched and moaned and complained as promised? You betcha.
I am a whiner by nature when it comes to stuff like this, and that’s okay with me. But I refuse to remain a quitter. So I am STILL doing this. The Huntington Beach marathon is Feb 1st. They have a half marathon and my Christmas present from my parents is going to be registration for the race.
I acknowledge that the holidays are coming up. Thanksgiving is this week and yes that is scary. But I am sticking this out. February 1st I will complete a half marathon. Whether I have to walk, crawl or roll over that finish line I’m going to do it. I further aspire to make it through this holiday season without hating myself when it is over. Every day is a challenge but I vow to keep fighting. That’s the whole point, right?
I am so behind on my training. I’m wondering if maybe I should make my March goal a 10 K instead of a half-marathon? I didn’t even take the holidays and my writing deadline into account when I set this lofty goal.
And now, I may be starting a part-time job.
Am I a failure or a let down if I shift my goals somewhat?
