Well, it’s midsummer. We are smack dab in the center of summer movie madness and my list of romantic comedies is sadly short. I saw The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds (totally cute, must see!). Other then that I’ve got…nothing. Recommendations anyone?

I do want to give out a special shout out to Sandy here though. I sent in my passport for renewal a couple weeks before I saw her flick and it reminded me of another SB movie I love and adore:

If you haven’t seen it you need to rent it ASAP. If you have then you probably remember the part where Sandra’s character talks about how she always carries her passport with her “just in case.” It basically summarizes why I got my passport renewed (well, that and my old one was expiring). I have no trips planned. I just have:

See that little rectangle on the bottom? It’s the new electronic tracker. Does this mean the US government can track me like a lojack? I have no idea. The part that annoys me a bit is this:

See how pretty those visa pages are? They’re all like that. They have beautiful color images and quotes from famous Americans along the top. But the ink is so dark. How are my passport stamps going to stand out with all that ink!

Ahhh now I see the sinister plan.

The special features of an Electronic Passport includes:

Contactless chip technology that allows the information stored in an Electronic Passport to be read by special chip readers at a close distance.

Contactless chip technology? Seriously?

If these bozos think I’m going to wave at customs officers in other countries and not hound them for stamps they’ve got another thing coming to them. If I’m going to spend a frickin’ fortune as a tourist they can take 2 seconds to stamp my book!

In the meantime, my passport is all naked. Which means I have a clean slate full of possibilies…

Do you have a passport? What did you use it for? Are you a passport stamp junkie too?

  1. Actually I just got my passport renewed. It had expired in 1988, and it was high time. I kept meaning to do it before, and just never got around to it or never had the cash to spare. But mom and I are going on a cruise in January, and Carnival told us that we needed to have them for Mexico. Mom always has one, and I renewed mine and got the card too. The passport came in the mail last week and the card arrived on Monday, so I’m set now. Look out world!

In all the places I’ve been, I’ve never had my passport stamped. No one’s ever asked, they just look at it and that’s it.

  2. oops, make that expired in 1998; it was issued in ’88.

no passport yet for me. I’m getting one before my cruise next year though.

When I worked in banking, I loved looking at people’s passports. Always interesting… I know I’m gonna be a stamp-junkie too! That will give me an excuse to travel more–and after son2 leaves the house, I may be able to afford to. Hopefully!

Connie, I can’t believe you’ve never had your passport stamped! I fully recommend standing at the customs desk and pointing to the stamp, then pointing to your empty passport page. A “I look like an ass but I don’t care” smile helps too. Don’t ask me how I know that.

Shell I am so excited for you! There is nothing more cooler (or more terrifying) then your first trip out of the USA. I don’t remember my first trip out of the country because I was very young and Mexico is only a two hour ride from where I grew up. We actually call it “The Big Bar Down South.” LOL.
