She turned 50 this year...

Okay, so I’m a fat chick. I am. It’s taken me forever to really mean that when I say it…but it’s true.

I’ll be 40 years old in March and the only thing I have to show for it (besides my awesome family) is 70 extra pounds. Sigh.

It hit me yesterday. I took my oldest son to cross-country practice at a local park. There were hundreds of people out there jogging and biking and walking. What was I doing? Reading in my car. It was a gorgeous evening by the river with paved trails and my fat ass was in the car reading.

I decided then and there I needed to make a change. Set a goal. Do something productive.

So I’m going to train to do a half marathon.

Yeah, I’m an idiot. But I’m going to do it.

Best thing about this whole scenario? I conned convinced my cross-continental friend to do it with me.

If Madonna can look like that at 50–then I need to take a look at her life and apply it to mine.

Starting Sunday, October 26… my training bud, CarbKiller and I will be starting the from couch to 5K training. Then we’ll work up to the 10K and hopefully the half marathon. My race is in March, hers is in February. This blog will chronicle our pitfals and successes…It should be a colorful party so stay tuned!

Its not jsut about how you look (ok major bonus tho) but how you will feel (awesome) and the health threats like diabetes, throid, etc will be zilch. Also, I do it to set an example to my kid. So, that said, I don’t know if I can run a half marathon but I’ll cheer you guys on and try to train with you! If you wanted somebuddy….Congrats guys on one of the best endeavors you can make! Oh, and I have a cousin who did what you are doing. She was over weight. But she set the goal and did it. At first she couldn’t run more than 2 blocks. I’m not kidding. But she pushed herself further and furtehr and lifted weights and did it. She’s run like 3 marathons now. So I know you can do it!

thx for all the support gang. I really have no idea how this is gonna work, but I know it won’t be pretty.

Savvy, I have seen people bigger than me accomplish this, so I know it can be done. I just have to really decide to do it. I figure that together (with the support from our cyberfriends) we’ll do this thing.
