We’ve had several emails from readers who are ready to join in and pledge to start training with us. We had a plan but then we scrapped that plan because we had more folks express their interest and it was becoming too complicated for us to manage. (We’re simple folk here.)

So here’s the new plan. We want you to join the team. You don’t have to vow to run. And you certainly don’t have to vow to do a half-marathon. (we’re the only fools allowed on this blog) All you have to do is pledge to get moving.

If you want to be on the team, all we ask you to do is comment here. Tell us who you are, what your goals are (running, walking, swimming, biking…whatever), and where you live. If you have a website/blog give us the address. We’ll add you to our TEAM page. CK and I are going to be blogging a lot (or maybe not a lot) if you want to add to the blog, shoot it to us in an email to crazy @fatchicksrunning.com (w/o the space after crazy) and we’ll post it for you with your name in the subject.

This is an exciting time for us. We might be foolish, but at least we won’t be alone.

    CK, HZ Move your buns!

Okay, it might not be a perfect cheer, but I’ll keep working on them for you!

  2. Hogzilla says:

Mia, we’ll take the cheers. And as long as your skirt is really short and your top is really tight, you can cheer. 😉

  3. Lorrie says:

Yeah count me in! I’ve been trying out an exercise plan off & on now for a while. I think being a part of the gang who is doing it as a committment (even tho we’re not in physical contact) will be a real motivation for me. Just knowing I’m not alone will help….so hell yeah, count me in, guys! Come Monday I’m starting my new diet plan as well as the running plan. I’m limiting my carbs & filling up on protein. So after this weekend I’ll be known as ProteinMuncher…lol! It has a ring to it don’tcha think?! I’m excited about this! YAY us!

    1) Linda
    2) 34
    3) Oxford, MS
    4) 5-10 lbs but mostly I just want to accomplish my goal of being a RUNNER.
    5) Still figuring out my race
    6) Starting with a 5K
    7) My plan is to run the whole damn thing.

So, a few years ago I joined Team in Training to attempt a half marathon. I was living in Nashville at the time, most of my friends had gotten married and I thought I needed to get in shape and meet new people–and if they were of the opposite sex that wouldn’t hurt. So, I signed up. The way it works is you train on your own during the week and go on group runs on the weekend. This started in late November/early December so it was COLD. But things started pretty well. Let me be clear: I do not run. I leave that to my skinny ass marathon-running brother. But I’ve always wanted to be a runner. I can SEE it. I can see myself running and looking like one of those women in Health magazine with the muscles and the determined look on her face. What I usually end up doing is huffing and puffing and grasping my side which is in horrific pain. But, still I signed up. The first run went pretty well. I found a group of women who was doing the run/walk thing like I was. I was encouraged. Then came run #2. Four miles. 17 degrees. By this time I seemed to be the only one still walking most of the time so I was all alone. And freezing my ass off. Somewhere around mile two I broke. I was running and crying and freezing at the same time. It wasn’t pretty. (yet now looking back I laugh every time I picture it) I didn’t sign up for crying! I signed up to feel good about myself, to meet cool new people and hopefully get a fab body and a new man! This was not part of the plan. So, I quit.

But here I am again. I’m going to start slower and work at my own pace. I’m aiming for a 5K which doesn’t overwhelm me. I hope when I achieve that I’ll want to move on to a 10K and so on. But I’m taking this one day at a time. And today was Day #1. I haven’t been working out much lately so I just went for a fast paced 30 minute walk. It felt great. I feel motivated and I’m excited about moving on. Let’s do this.

  7. Connie says:

I won’t lie, I’m not going to run. At my age (almost thirty-14), my weight (not telling) and with the rather delicate state of my knees, now is not the time for that.

But being a joiner, I want to join this venture. So I pledge to use the Wii Fit that I just spent a buttload of money on today to improve my strength, balance, and aerobic capacity as well as take some pounds off my butt.

    Just call me SheWhoWiis

  8. Hogzilla says:

Welcome! It’s not about running, it’s about movement, and dear SheWhoWiis, you’ll definitely feel the difference when you start your Wii Training!

    So glad you’re joining us!

  9. trashyknits says:

Is it too late for me to join? 🙂 I’m not doing the running either (though that could change) but I’m WiiTraining with Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 – the game that had me groaning and whimpering every time I stood or sat after I stumbled blindly into the squats activity. I’ll figure out a progression plan for myself, too. 🙂

  10. KJ says:

I can totally get with that. Thanks Chicks! I want to move more. Walk more. Maybe even run a bit on the treadmill. Get to the gym and lose some weight. You can throw my blog up as a team member. Heck I was outed by Barbara Vey on her blog as having to get back to Weight Watchers so I’d better get on it and quick. Oh and I live in Westchester New York.

  11. Hogzilla says:

It’s never too late to join!

Okay, I’m adding y’all to the list! (hopefully sometime today) Welcome Trashyknits and KJ!

  16. Bethanne says:

…a just sat for more than 2 minutes deciding if this would be a good idea, which I know is ridiculous, cuz who’s gonna catch me? But still, why do I stop exercising? I’m a great starter. I’m not sure what to do…but I’ve been implementing some discipline into my life, so maybe I can push that over into my personal life… *disgustedlipcurl*
I think i’ll start with a brisk walk every morning before the kids are up. EEEK!
    Good luck everyone.

  17. Bethanne says:

oh crap. I’m in Central Illinois.

  20. CarbKiller says:

Hi Cinde! We didn’t forget you, you just didn’t post here so we weren’t sure.
    Welcome welcome!

This list is getting LONG I seriously need to alphabetize or something.

    Hey Mel – know where I can pre-order Maria’s book? 😉

  24. Christie says:

Ladies! You crack me up daily and you make me want to work out! I love it! =) 23, the goal is to run and eventually run a half but we’ll see about that but first i want to do a 5k but I’m in quite the same situation running= hell! I will certainly stay tuned and ready for the ride… well run I suppose now! 🙂

  25. Christie says:

Oh and I’m from Cincinnati, OH

  26. Jen says:

I was on the fence and then my fat ass got on a scale. So I’m in. Guess that means I’m going to have to start training. Not sure what I’ll run in yet, but I’ll do some research. Does walking count?

  27. MF Makichen says:

Hey Ladies, I’m finally joining in. Better later than nevah! So here are my goals: to walk/jog 10-15 miles a week and to do pilates twice a week. I started pilates today so I’ve got that part covered. Now I just have to make sure I do my cardio. It’s really rainy where I live so most of that will probably get done on my treadmill. I may try to speed walk a 5K on Thanksgiving. We’ll see. Thanks for the inspiration!

  28. Jen says:

Hey what am I chicken liver? I want to play and get my fat ass in shape!

  29. Kellie says:

Hey Ladies, I am a soccer mom, a bored to tears career woman, and I too am a fat chick. You ladies have inspired me. I bought running shoes a few weeks back and thought I’d join in the fun. Finally, today 3 weeks to Christmas, I’m jumping in the deep end and committing to exercise and get healthy hopefully loose some weight. I too have a milestone birthday 45 in April. God that’s old, and i’m here to tell you 40 is not the new 30. I think my Mantra will be “loose 45 for my 45th.” I once trained for a marathon I was in the best shape of my life, it would be great to reclaim those glory days. I digress. Let’s go fat chicks!

  30. Melissa says:

fun for all ages. I’ll do it. I’ll huff and puff.

  31. Hogzilla says:

YAY! welcome, Melissa! I’m going to try to update our team page this weekend.

  32. Aquaman says:

Ok, I’ll be the testosterone on the site. I’m a former championship swimmer who’s underweight trying to gain 25 pounds without being fat. I just started a strength training program and just need to accountability. You know how friends can shame into into anything don’t we Melissa?? You know the rest about me, you fill in the the rest of the blanks, you’re the writer!!

  33. […] posted his info under the join us thread. Check it out when you have […]

  34. I started the C25K program a while back, I’m a week behind due to a crappy cold, but I’m ready to restart! Can I play with you guys? So far, over the past year, I’ve lost 70 lbs and when I started C25K, I could barely run the 60 sec portions. I have since upped my abilities to complete a full 5k on the treadmill in 40 mins and 40 secs.

I plan to run in a 5k going on during the Flying Pig Marathon in OH on May 2nd. Then, I plan to run the 5k Freihoffer’s Run for Women on May 30th.

I think I need another boost of encouragement cause not running for a week, has really taken its toll on my ambition and my self-confidence. Ugh!

I think I need buddy support!
    Sandy 🙂

  35. Gavin says:

I was led to this blog from another fitness site related to Long Beach, CA.

I run a non-profit called the Long Beach Neighborhood Foundation and hope you will promote to your team our efforts to help people get fit.

One free program just started its second year: The River Runners

This group is geared towards beginning runners and walkers who would like to be able to work their way up to running a 5k or 10k, but there are also some more experienced runners who show up to have some company during their workout.

Runs occur every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from now until the Wrigley River Run on June 6th.

You can show up for as many or as few as you like. People of all levels were in the group last year.

Local businesses have partnered with the group and participants get 15% off at Buono’s on Thursday and $1 off smoothies at Juice it Up on Saturday.

Runs begin with stretching at 615p on Tuesdays and Thursays and at 7am on Saturdays.

The intention is to create an environment that will support the entire family in a fun filled sport.

Vernon Rudd leads the group, he is a long distance multi marathon runner and has help from several accredited fitness coaches.

    More info at http://www.lbfoundation.org/Events.html

I hope you dont consider this spam or anything, just trying to get more people active with some free coaching and of course we hope people will also sign up for our 5/10k, but they arent required to.

  36. Bex says:

Hey! Really wanna start running, Am not at all happy with my level of fitness and want to go back three years (pre-baby)! None of my friends are into the idea of running with me so love the idea of having somewhere to turn to for support from women with the same goals.
Would love it if I could join and be a fat chick running too!

  37. Shelly B says:

Hey, I’m a fat chick and I wanna be on the team! I’ve been following C25K for 5 weeks now. There’s a 1/2 marathon in San Antonio in November that I’m aiming for!

  38. shellgirl says:

I wanna play! I’m a fat chick who’s training to run a 1/2 marathon in San Antonio in November. I started training with the Couch to 5k plan about 5 weeks ago. This morning I had an embarrassing moment. I pulled a Charlotte about 1/4 mi from my house. Figure it out so you can laugh it up! I thought I was gonna die!

  39. Waynette says:

Hey! I made up my mind at the first of June to get back to running. I am doing really good with it. I use RunKeeper on my iphone to help me keep up with distance and see my improvements each week. I use the PodRunner tunes from iTunes to keep me moving. I just signed up this week for the Little Rock 1/2 Marathon in 2010. I wanted to PAY to keep my ass motivated and moving. I’m turning 44 in August. I don’t want to hit 45 – look in the mirror and just think it not worth it anymore. I run @ 5:30 in the morning. The heat of the afternoon and evening is too much for me right now. I enjoy this blog so much. ~ Waynette

  40. dawn says:

hi, my name is dawn, and i am a fat chick. i have about 35 pounds to lose. i just started the ‘couch to 5k’ program because my sis-in-law signed us up for a 10k in minnesota in october. i’m super worried about being able to run it all because i have allowed myself to become so out of shape. i need all the support and inspiraton i can get. 🙂

    my blogs – http://www.thanks-and-praise.blogspot.com and http://www.enchantingreviews.blogspot.com.

  41. dawn says:

    p.s. i’m from denver.

  42. Hey there….I want in. I have pledged to move, completed my second 5k today. I have over 100 lbs. to lose. I have set up a blog to keep me accountable, I have great support and an eager heart….I am 50 years old. Please vist my blog it’s a clear pic of me….thanks!

  43. Jeannie says:

I should have come here a long time ago. My butt is getting big, my pants don’t fit any more. (Sorry for the TMI) I need to run.

I got on a treadmill and ran a good 3 miles today and in the lightheadedness and exhaustion that ensued, I thought it would be a good idea to look y’all up again.

Please let me in to the team. I don’t have enough money to buy all new pants and *sniff* don’t look good in the stretchy ones.

  44. Hogzilla says:

welcome, Jeannie! We’re not posting as often as we used to, but we’re still around! So glad to have you!

  45. Hogzilla says:

so glad you guys are joining us!

  46. Wow….this is just what I have been needing for Lord knows how long! I have been an on and off again runner for 4 years. I tend to go through spurts where I will run 3 miles a day for 6 or more months and then stop when life gets crazy…which is often! LOL
I ran my first 5K over the summer and did pretty darn good for a fat chick! You can check out the story on my blog.
I have put on a good 25 pounds in the past 3 years and yet I continue to run. Maybe thats what has kept me from putting on 50!? So, I would love to join your site and support one another to get off the couch and run our asses off.
I run/ live/ blog here in Maryland where right now it is colder than a witch’s tit in a brass bra. Thank God for treadmills!

  47. Shut up! I may have found my people…. 🙂 I’ve always said “I wish I could run!” as if it were the equivalent of “I wish I could win the nobel prize for science and research” when the extent of my scientific ability is watching Mythbusters on television. I am on the verge of turning 41, and just DO NOT want to spend my 40’s being “sick and tired and fat!” I started the Couch to 5K running program 5 weeks ago and have lost 13 pounds in the process, as well as overhauling my eating. I do the program 3 days a week, and cross train, usually on the elliptical, on the other 3 days.(Sundays off.) And the hubs and I just started a 6 day a week weight training program. I’m not greased lightening, and I’m still fat @ 216…BUT I AM RUNNING!! And feeling better than ever! 😀

  48. Meg says:

Ok…so did I get to the party late? I literally put into the google bar “running while fat” and picked this blog. I love it. Ok, so the deal is this: I’m 27, overweight (I prefer the term overly healthy), a new vegetarian and an ex-smoker. I want to be able to run a marathon by age 30. I’ve already started training myself…approx. 2 weeks ago. What?! It’s a start. Can I join? I’ve always wanted before and after pictures…..

  49. Meg says:

    Oh…and I’m from PA..Lancaster,Pa. Amish country!

  50. Rachel MacArthur says:

    Hiya!

Started out last December (2009) with some serious weight loss desperation; trying to get to a weight where I could donate part of my liver to my mom. Have lost appx 50 lbs so far; unfortunately my mom passed away 3/25/10, before I was eligible 🙁 But yeah, now I’m dedicated to getting as healthy as possible in her memory. It’s amazing what a life-or-death situation does for motivation!

I would love to be able to make blog entries once in a while; I am *not* a chatty person, but I don’t have anyone around here to talk shop with (ie: other fat runners) so having a place online should be *almost* as good!

I’m in Central Maine, by the way; most of my running is done inside on a treadmill but I’m slowly making my way outside since the weather’s worth it.
